The following information was kindly given by Natalie Hughes:

The six volume set Lisle Letters contains a good amount of information on the Yeo family of Devon in the sixteenth century. I'm not connected to Yeo, but searched your site for Leonard Yeo of Elizabeth City County in the early 1600's, looking for a connection to Leonard Feild who came into possession of Leonard Yeo's land there.  Philip Bruce states that Leonard Yeo had come from Devon. He had a relative Hugh Yeo here.

Here are my rough notes on Yeo in Maryland/Virginia -- sources should be re-checked:

1639  Fleet, York County: p.113 Leonard Yeo is a witness in York County, Virginia.
1644 Capt. Leonard Yeo 350 a Elizabeth City Co. at head of South .... River; Nugent, Cavaliers and Pioneers, Vol. I.
1640 Virginia Settlers #1180: William Yeo of Ratcliffe, mariner, aged 50 re ship "Martha" belonging to William Cloberry.
1660/61--1676, Burgesses in Virginia Assembly  Hugh Yeo, Leonard Yeo
.
1647 justice in Lower Norfolk County, Virginia:  Leonard Yeo.  and in 1650.
1659 August, Henry Yeo of Gun Alley, Wapping Middlesex; estate .. adm to Hannah Yeo; English Estates of American Colonists.
1662: Nugent, Cavaliers and Pioneers, Vol. I:  p.500 lower right: Daniell Hull 850a Northumberland Co 1662, 500a adjacent Robt Yeo.
1670 Col. Leonard Yeo of Westmoreland, Nomini, was later Burgess in Eliz. City Co., died 1670; Eaton, Westmoreland County.
1676 John Yeo is overseer, Calvert County, Maryland.
1680 John Yeo, John Haslewood, Edward Beedle are overseers for Henry Haslewood.
John Yeo, born 1683, listed in Rent Rolls, Baltimore and Anne Arundel Counties.
1684 John Yeo testifies in Maryland court to a will.
1719 Yeo, George m Boswell, Ellinor; Elizabeth City County, Virginia.
1743 .. .. adj. Thomas Yeo on Pohick Run, G.Gray, Virginia Northern Neck Grants.

A Yeo appears in Scisco, Baltimore Co. Land Records.
The Swem Index lists Yeo at: 7V194; 17V228; 29V40; 31V320; 7W(1)240.

Baltimore County Families, 1659-1759 by Robert W. Barnes, has mention of eleven named Yeo. The main paragraph is:

"Rev. John Yeo was the first Anglican clergyman known to have settled in Maryland;
in 1676 wrote a letter to the Archbishop of Canterbury; married by 2 Oct. 1686 Semelia, widow and admnx. of Ruthen Garrettson; died by 2 Nov. 1686 when admin. bond was posted by Miles Gibson with James Phillips and Thomas Richardson; estate was inventoried by Thomas Hedge and James Phillips.  In 1702 the heirs of John Yeo of England (Arthur Lamprey of Beddiford, County Devon, who married Elizabeth, widow of Joseph Yeo who was a brother of John Yeo, clerk of Maryland,
and Joseph Yeo son of the aforesaid Joseph Yeo) appointed William Pauley their attorney to sell any property formerly belonging to John Yeo; may have left a son John and a married daughter, but if so, they would have been his heirs."

There were several marriages, in Elizabethan times,   between Yeo's and Fortescues according to Lord Clermont who wrote a book on the Fortescue history in 1869.

Dorothy Fortescue daughter of John Fortescue (died 1605) of  Filleigh, Devon who married a George Yeo

Mary daughter of Bartholomew Fortescue of Filleigh (b 1506 d 12 Sep 1557) who married Humphrey Yeo of Heaton

Elizabeth daugther of William Fortescue (1583) of Buckland Filleigh, Devon who married John Yeo of Hench

Sarah daugther of Hugh Fortescue ( d 1 Aug 1600 aged 56)  of Wear-Gifford who married Leonard of Huish

Please note that Buckland Filleigh and Filleigh are different villages some distance apart

This line branches back to Holsworthy in the early 1700`s.
