Tianne Dean (Aug 13)
I am the great great granddaughter of William Henry Walker and Mary Elizabeth Jackson. I can’t seem to find any information when I type in either of their names. I don’t know a lot about either of them. I do know that they had a daughter Nellie Lenora (Walker) Thornton b. 8-14-1895 in Kansas and she d. 10-30-1977 in the Cameron Hospital. She is buried in the Thornton Cemetery in Clarksdale, MO.
Nellie Married Thomas Franklin Thornton, I’m assuming in MO. Thomas lived most of his life in the DeKalb Co, (Washington Township, Clarksdale) area. I can’t even find a marriage date for these two. I have contracted the DeKalb Co Historical Society, but they don’t seem to have much information on Nellie. I think Nellie might have lived in Coffeyville, KS when she was 5 yrs old. I did find a 1900 Census that shows that William and Mary might have married in around 1894.
William’s father shows he was from Kentucky and mother from Missouri.
A 1910 Census shows a William (MO) and Mary Walker ( KS) with Daughter: Nellie (15y Kansas), and Marie Walker (5y Kansas). There is also a Knuet Landeen(21y Kansas) and Carle Landeen (23y Kansas).
Would appreciate any help you have on this line. Like I said earlier, I seem to hit brick walls whenever I look for any historical information on Nellie and anything further down the Walker line. Even information on Nellie’s parents. I don’t even know who William Henry Walker’s parents are.

I am researching the architectural career of John Arthur Walker, born in Bradford, England on 6/25/1884 and died on 11/08/1938.
Moved to the USA and worked for Cram, Fergusen & Goodhue. Moved to Bryn Athyn, PA in 1915 to work on the Bryn Athyn Cathedral. Formed a partnership with Harold Thorp Carswell that continued until about 1926. I don't know what became of him after that. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I've been searching for many years for a certain Walker with no return. I have two names from two DAR records neither of which includes his linneage. The names are Clinton Walker and C. Curlin Walker. He was born in Pennsylvania in either 1832 or 1835 and married Jane Chambers Green in 1859 (she was born in Hardy Co. Virginia) and died (no authentication) in 1872. I believe that they lived in Missouri for a time. They had at least two children, Ida Alice born 1-9-1864, Virginia (Jennie) who married Howard Tilford Allen, and evidence points to a brother but this is unverified. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Clinton (or ?) is my great great grandfather and his linneage is a blank.
Matthew Forester (Aug 12)
I'm looking for information on Robert Walker (b. 1874 in Pennsylvania, lists age as 36 on 1910 US Census) and his parents. Death date is unknown. He lists both parents as born in Ireland. He was living on 2945 Kipp St., Philadelphia in 1910 and lists his occupation as a weaver. He is not listed on 1920 census with the family (recorded 16 Jan 1920). Robert Walker married Jennie Mae Toole (b. May 1879 Paisley, Scotland, d. 1932 Philadelphia) sometime around 1902. They had at least 3 children: Jennie May "Dollie" Walker (1905-1963), George (b. 1907-?), Robert P. Walker Jr. (b.1910 - ?). We believe George may have died as an infant or toddler. Robert P. Walker, Jr. had several children: Robert, Ruth (married a Schubert) and Vaughn.
A possible relative (mother, aunt, sister is possible but they list different parent originations) is Mary A. Walker (b Nov. 1849 in England, d. Jun 1915 in Philadelphia). She came to the US in 1888 with her daughter Susan "Susie" Walker (b. Aug 1873 in England, d. 2 Apr 1951 Philadelphia). Mary A. Walker and Susan are buried in Section C, Lot 487 of the Oakland Cemetery in Philadelphia. She lists her occupation as mill weaver. In 1910, Mary A. Walker and Susan Walker are living in 2831 D Street, Philadelphia. Susan lists her occupation as mill worker. Mary A. Walker lists both parents as being born in England. When Mary A. Walker died in 1915, she lived at 529 E. Cambria St. in Philadelphia.

My interest is if anyone can provide information on an Amelia Walker from Adelaide St. Hull, who married Charles Alfred Manning at the Parish Church Hull on the 17th April 1879. Amelia's later moved to Fleetwood, Lancs. where she died 9th Jan 1933 aged 71. Her sister Annie Maud who married a Bishop also died in Fleetwood 28th July 1918 aged 62. The marriage certificate states her Fathers name as Matthew Walker. I believe she was a relative of Whimsical Walker of music hall fame. The Manning Family moved to Hull from Ipswich around the 1870's.

I have followed their path through Lincoln County, Tennessee, Pontotoc County Mississippi, and to Hazeldell in Comanche County Texas. I would really be grateful for any help in which you can give me in reference to my Walker family. Robert Walker was my great grandfather born about 1867. According to the census he was born in Virginia. His wife was Nancy (Nannie Barner). I located them together in Brunswick County Virginia. The 1900,1910,1920 and 1930. Kids were Mary, Sam,Malinda,Frances (Anderson) and Rosa Walker. I might have missed some. My grandfather was Sam Walker born about 1900 in Virginia. He married Panny Wynn. The house he was born in is still standing. It is really a shack. Very small there are two of them next to each other. My uncle took me there over the summer. According to the 1920 census when he was living on Belfield road he owned his property. Also working on his own agenda. He was a farmer. He was also listed as general farm I do not know what that means. Then 1930 he no longer owned his property. Robert and the rest of the family were listed as mulatto. The Walker families were working on the Duggar Plantation and the Temple family. My aunt who is 75 told me she was living on the Duggar Plantation as a child. I can't seem to get any information about Robert besides he may have been living in North Carolina as a baby. His mother was Mary Walker according to the Marriage License. His father was not listed on the license. They married in 1898 Brunswick County Virginia. His wife was Nancy Barner.

"I am the daughter of a Walker (Edward Alfred) who arrived in New Zealand by ship with his parents around 1910. I believe they were William Walker and Mary (nee Lawrence/Laurence). There is a marriage recorded for them on separate pages of the parish register:
William Walker Folio 6b. 182. marriage 1896, page 327 of marriages registered April May and June. A census record says he was born in 1871 (he was aged 10 in the 1881 census), his father William and mother Eliza. He lived at 233 Pleck Rd, Walsall and the entry is recorded in the parish named Walsall Foreign, Staffordshire..
Mary Jane Lawrence Folio 6b. 1032 on page 187, marriages registered September 1896. She seems to have been born in March 1875.
This William was born in Walsall, Staffordshire, UK probably in 1871. I once located a birth record I thought was his but was not in a position to take a copy from the online database. He is first recorded as a "Tailors' Presser" in Walsall but later he became a hospital attendant, employed as an orderly or nursing assistant, then in a hospital pharmacy in New Zealand. His wife was a professional tailor and continued to pursue this business in New Zealand after her husband died, supporting the children through high school/college. I think she died in the late 1930s or early 40s. My father was born in Walsall, Staffordshire on 16th or 10th June, 1902 and died in Port Macquarie, NSW, Australia in 1996. He had many brothers and one sister.
He was the eldest surviving from about 1935 onwards after his sister, Victoria (always known as Gladys), died of tuberculosis in 1930. She was about 4 years older than Edward.
His brother David Corinthic Walker was born on a British ship (the Corinthic, but I don't know if they had to change ships because of his birth), moored at Tenerife, Canary Islands, probably the same year the family arrived in New Zealand and apparently registered as a Spanish birth! He died in the 1980s at Paraparaumu, in New Zealand.
Another brother, Ivan Wilfred Walker survived into adulthood, married in New Zealand and had one child Noelene, who is alive and living in Auckland (surname now Taylor). Noelene has 6 children: daughters Josephine, Donna, Sandra, Bronwyn, Debra and one son, Grant-David.
Another younger brother, Noel, had twin children Patricia and Peter born in 1952. However Ivan died before I ever met him, when his only child was only 3 months old and I believe Noel died when his twins were very young as well. They both died of tuberculosis.
Another brother Hector Granville Walker (born September 1903), died young after being an alcoholic and apparently fond of narcotics and riding fast motorcycles.
I think he died in the 1920s, but I'm not sure. No other children survived infancy, I don't think, but names mentioned were Fitzpatrick and Fitzherbert, probably combined with William after their father.
In New Zealand, David Corinthic Walker married a Mary (don't know her maiden name) and they had 3 children, 2 of whom I assume are still alive in NZ (my cousins, Ruth and David Jr). The eldest, Anne was born in 1951 and died about 1970 from diabetes, inherited from her mother I think. The next child was Ruth, born in 1953 and then David born about 1955. Ruth married a Keith Irvine in the 1970s and had two boys, Phillip (also got diabetes at about 14) and Kevin. David married and has 3 or 4 children.
I discovered a list of Walker deaths in the New Zealand Register of Births, Marriages and Deaths, but I don't know which "William" is my grandfather. Perhaps someone could investigate further:
Victoria Gladys Walker died aged 32 in 1930, register number 1715.
Ivan Wilfred Walker died aged 26 in 1938, register number 23296.
Mary Walker died in 1942 aged 69, register number 33414.
The most likely is William Walker aged 48 who died in 1919, register number 4676.
Also: William Walker died aged 48 in 1918, register number 11916.
William Walker died 1916 aged 43, register number 898.
A baby Walker named Herbert Constantine seems likely to have been part of their family. He was born in 1910 and was aged 9 weeks when he died, register number 9535.
I have been told by various people that the UK Walkers were "carpet walkers" working in the Axminster mills- people who straightened carpets after they came off looms or from storage- I assume they were involved in weaving and labouring during the industrial revolution. Before that, some say there were some brewers and hotel keepers amongst the Walkers and this is supposed to be how William Walker met his bride, Mary, whose father was a brewer/hotel keeper. Previously some say the Walkers were farm workers from north of Walsall- maybe from York, and maybe from Scotland. Others have argued our Walkers were Welsh - many (including my father and I, his brothers and most of my cousins) have the freckled skin and ginger hair of some Scots but all are fairly short, apparently more characteristic of Welsh miners! They all seem to be staunch
Protestants- I never heard of any members of the Catholic church in the family and they all had pretty negative opinions of the Catholics- called them "Paddies". So they could even be from Northern Ireland!
My full name is Margaret Kable Walker- the other side of my family, the Kables, are quite famous in Australia and extensively researched! I was born in Wellington, New Zealand on 02/02/1952. I have no siblings nor children, so at least I've made a dead end to trace back from!
I certainly didn't see any Walkers mentioned in the list whom I thought I was related to- never heard of the other New Zealand Walkers.
I hope this provides a link for at least one person in the Walker group."

My Walkers are likely Scots-Irish ~ I've been trying to find parents or siblings of my eldest Walker for many years now... and most of my family is gone. Have met someone else, a relative actually, that is also searching for the same Walker... so perhaps we will find this family.
He was born Robert H Walker in 1828 in Kentucky, USA. It's said that his father's name was James but I haven't been able to prove it. There are also old stories about the Walker ancestors, direct to Robert H Walker, serving in the Revolutionary War with George Washington in 1775. So I've got quite a gap there... from Kentucky to Scotland or Ireland.

My brother and I have been doing some looking into our Walker roots. We are not experts by any means. We are fascinated with those that have proceeded us. We enjoy sharing what we find out, that includes the good and the bad.
Please contact us if we can help. We will give freely with the understanding that our information is true to the best of our knowledge and we don't claim hold our information as 100% correct 100% of the time. There are many "our facts" that we have problems with and don't quiet understand but they are the best we have and contrary to some, we have been wrong before.
Our Goal is to find out the truth as best we can and sometimes that truth is not easy to find or what we expect or want to hear. The past we can not change. All we can do is try to understand it.

I am looking for the parents and birthplace of Ehud Thomas Walker. He was born in Germany, Aug. 12, 1813 and died in Cincinnati, Ohio on July 16, 1876. The birthplace of Germany comes from his civil war pension file that says he and his parents were born in Germany. No names for parents or location was listed. He married three times that we know of, the first in Virginia in 1836, was Nancy or Ann Noland. The next was Elender Eccord in 1841 and the third was Annie Eccord in about 1849. The son I am descended from was James Thomas Ward Walker, then George Thomas Walker, James Elwood Walker, sr. and my dad, James Elwood Walker. We know this family spent time in Virginia before it became West Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky. Especially Cincinnati, Ohio and Covington, Kentucky. He was a historical figure who, among other things, discovered Cumberland Gap and was guardian to Thomas Jefferson. His parents lived in America (Virginia) and that is as far as I can get. He was born in 1725 and died in 1794. Do you have any information about his ancestors? What I am looking for specifically is just when the Walker family came to America.
