II. John PEARSE occupation Yeoman, m. Mary (Pearse). John b 31-Aug-1689 at Roche, Cornwall, died __-___-1731. Not married at Roche. In will dated 8 Feb 1731 probate 6 May 1732 another daughter Anny? mentioned as eldest daughter. He left her £40, same also to daughter Catherine. If they chose to live with eldest brother John & keep house for him they were to receive 40 shillings yearly. He gave each son Samuel & William £40. To eldest son John he left land in Tregoss, Roche and all goods and chattels. Wife not mentioned therefore deceased? See inventory list of goods left. Obviously very wealthy!

Samuel died __-___-1829. Will 12 Dec 1829 left £5 to each son John & Samuel & £2 to each daughter Peternal & Mary. Rest left to Margaret his wife.

c. Samuel Pearce HOOPER b. __-___-1827, Roche, Cornwall, occupation Innkeeper, m. 04-Jan-1851, in Roche, Cornwall, Amy FRANCIS. Samuel. About 1857 Samuel & Amy left Tregoss and he became innkeeper of the Victoria Inn at Roche, where Guy Francis was born in 1858. He was also recorded as being a miner when their children were baptised. About 1862/64 he left the Victoria Inn and it was taken over by his brother James Pearce Hooper. He spent his lifetime in the trade and was recorded at burial as being of the Rock Hotel, Roche 30 June 1909 aged 76. 1841 census aged 14 living at home.

Emigrated to New Zealand in 1879. He was a gold miner for 30 years in Otago and then bought farmland near Ashburton in 1911. He had 9 sons all of whom were farmers.

He never married. 1891 census living at home single and a scholar. He was in the Canadian army in the first world war and was wounded and received a pension. 1881 aged 4.

He emigrated to Longbeach, California, America where he married her. She was American. They had an orange ranch. 1861 census age 2 months. 1881 aged 20 tin miner unmarried living at home in Roche. Got death certificate - discrepancy over date of birth/ bapt. Died of heart problems. Lived at address in USA for 18 years and in California for 40 and lived in USA for 42 years.
