Mill Olver

has a wealth of information on these lines above from the Honesdale area in PA, USA

Martin Dawe (July 10)

My GG Grandmother was ELIZABETH OLVER born 1834 St. Martins, Looe, Cornwall, and she married my GG Grandfather THOMAS DAWEin 1855 in Morval.
Her father was WILLIAM OLVER (b 1809), Schoolmaster & mother MARIA HAMBLEY. We think both her parents were dead by 1841, they do not appear on that census and she was living (with her two brothers) with her grandparents, JOHN OLVER (b 1774)and his wife ELIZABETH MORESHEAD (b 1778), farmers at Corgorlin, Morval, Cornwall.
I would like to know more about Maria Hambley and my Cornish Olver roots, and will be happy to share information

Julia Cook (March 10)

My maiden name was Olver. We come from the Pillaton, Landrake, Quethiock area in Cornwall.

Dave Olver (Dec 09)

I am trying to trace desendants of Leslie Frederick Olver, born 12th August 1903 in Tideford, Cornwall and who emigrated from Scotland to the United States in the 1920s.

He lived and worked in Chicago for a while, but then moved to Arizona where he died in 1988 in Pima County. I believe he had a son, also named Leslie who may now be in Texas. I also undertsand that there is a grandson named Marty but have not yet been able to get any further information.

Laura Serghe (Dec 08)

I am trying to find out more about the Olver side of my family and also the origin of the name Olver. I am assuming from what I have read on your site that it is of Cornish origin? It sounds very similar to Olivier...Could it be french?

The Olver name is from my father's side of the family. His mother was called Laura Norker, her father was George Norker and her mother was Laura Anne Olver (born in 1888 in Kirkdale, Liverpool) Her father was called either William A Olver or William H Olver born approx 1866. I believe he was also born in Liverpool. He was married to someone called Elizabeth but I have no maiden name. I would love to trace the Olver family further down the line.If you have any info that may be of help, I would be so grateful

Alisha Olver (May 07)

My mother's maiden name is Schroeder and my father is Mark Allen Olver

Douglas Mark OLVER. (March 07)

Born in Toronto Canada .My father was William C. OLVER. Born in Toronto Canada in July 1919.

My grandfather was Walter OLVER . Born in Lostwithiel, Cornwall, England in March 1894. Immigrated to Toronto Canada in 1915.

My grandfather's father was Richard OLVER who married Jane Bowden, I think in the 1870s. Both are burried in the Lostwithiel cemetary.

My grandfather, Walter OLVER had a few older siblings named William OLVER, Annie OLVER, and Bess OLVER. All three were born in the early 1890s (Bess)
and 1880s (Annie and Bill)

I believe Richard OLVER (my great grandfather) also had a brother named Walter OLVER who would have been born in the mid 1880s (1850s) as well.
This Great, Great Uncle of mine (Walter) had a son named Leonard OLVER, who was born in the 1890s and immigrated to Canada after the first World War.
He resided in Nova Scotia.

Apparently these two brothers had a father named John OLVER who was born in the early 1800s.

I don't know if this information will be helpful to your research, however I would like to share it, in case it is !!!

If by chance any of this information happens to link up to what you may have, or if you happen to have any similar inquiries with these names, I
would appreciate it, if you would notify me.

In Mexico there was one of the largest communities of Cornish people all over the world, in pachuca and Mineral del Monte, in the last town there is a Cornish cementery with over 600 Cornish and other british nationalities. My History is the following:
My great grand mother was part of an aristochratic family and she fell in Love of Medical Doctor Carlos OLVERA (Olvera is an andaluzian name but is similar to OLVER), they never married but my great grand mother gave birth to Julio OLVERA and after that their family of VILLAMIL name rob all her fortune and left her and his siter in the misery, my grand pa star to work since 8 years old, He was Born on 1905 and later married, raised a family and get a reputation, he was major of that city from 1951 to 1954. Many Cornish loved him and even helped him, cornish Like LUDLOW family and apreciated him so much, he destroyed his past and never liked to talk about jis past, his father went to El Chico to search for him, but my grand ma told to him that my grand pa was death and refused to say the true to him, In these years I've been searching my roots, many people in the family and friends and relatives suspect he was a cornish on fahter's side, and he was big nose and blue eyes and grey haired, I've been searching in the cornish cementery for info and other cementeries close to el Chico, Real del Monte and Pachuca and no information about Dr. Carlos Olvera CHARLES OLVER), so I would like to know if some one has profesional registers about medical doctors that have inmigrated to Mexico or list of OLVER inmigrats to Mexico, people searching for migrants to Mexico, I can help you, I have the chance to visit cementeries and even take you to them if you visit mexico, REGGARDS

My birth name was Jean Otten. I was called Jeanne from a young age. Anyway, Alice Elizabeth Olver was my G.G. grandmother. She married Andrew
Jackson Faatz my G.G. Grandfather. I know that she died at a very young age, 21 to be exact and my G.G. Grandfather remarried. I wondered how
she died and any stories that may have survived about her and my Olver family. Also, if anyone has any pictures of the the Olver line I would
love to have copies. I have one copy of a picture of Alice and also one of my G.G. Grandfather Andrew Faatz in his union uniform. If anyone has
any info or pictures and are willing to share them I would greatly appreciate it. I am also willing to share any pictures or information
that I have. I am planning a trip next year to Honesdale and will be bringing my son. I am interested in the location of the Old Glass
Factory and the cemetery there. This is where a lot of my family is buried and I understand that the stones are quickly deteriorating. I
would like to see them and show my son where his ancestors lived.
Thanking you in advance from the beautiful foothills of California.

What a super site! I'm looking for a John Olver who was the father of Elizabeth, bapt. 3rd June, 1649; I think her mother was Alice, but I've already tried 'Alice Olver' on your site.
The above Elizabeth married John Hicks/Hix in 1687 in Morval.
Two generations later, Susannah Hicks married John Wadling at St. Germans in1787. Their grandaughter, Jane Wadling, married John Roberts at Stoke Damerel in 1847. They were my great-great-grandparents.

I do not know if you can be of any assistance to me at all. I am trying to find details re my ancestors John (middle name possibly Hodge) Olver a labourer and his wife Rebecca (maiden name unknown). John died of Dropsy at Bere alston on 12th February 1841 at the age of 80 years old. His wife Rebecca died of pulmonary apoplexy at Bere alston on 20th June 1854 also aged 80. Their son Thomas Hodge Olver was born St Martin by Looe Cornwall on 24th December 1798, he married Mary ann strike of Bere ferrers Devon. He emigrated to Daylesford Australia with only some of his family in 1858/59 and his wife Mary died on 20th June 1854. she did not migrate. He then married a widow named Jane Trewhala nee Robins at Plymouth at age 55. She joined him later in Australia in 1862 and they settled in Hepburn victoria australia. She died in 1866 and he lived the rest of his life a widower. He had 7 children, only 3 of them immigrated with him. those who went with him were Thomas Hodge Olver jr, William Olver and later Samuel Hodge Olver. Those who remained were Rebecca Olver, Betsy Olver, Richard Olver (died at young age) and John strike Olver. I do not know what happened to those who remained and would like to try and find more details. If there is any connection to your family of Olvers I would love to know. If not perhaps you could suggest some starting points I could try.

I have a 2C3R, Eliza RAPSON , who married Rev Richard OLVER in Stoke Dameral in 1868.

I also have these notes from a genie cousin:- According to Census Records all children were born in various parts of England.

Alfred Olver Born March 1871 at Canterbury, Kent.

Richard Olver Born 1873 at Delleigham, Norfolk.

Ernest Olver Born September 1875 at Liskeard.

Edwin Olver Born 1879 at Buckfastleigh, Devon.

Lottie Olver Born 1880 at Brixham, Devon. She married Manus Hayes either in U.K or South Africa, so we assume that she is the daughter that Eliza

lived with after Richard's death.

I haven't explored this family, but it might be of interest to someone.

Back in the 1880's Edward Olver was the postmaster at Ashburn, Ontario. Edward is buried in the Burns Presbyterian Church Cemetery a couple of blocks from the country store where he distributed mail. The store still stands, is in excellent condition, and the current owner distributes mail just like it has been for over a century.

Edward Olver is a direct ancestor and I would be happy to share information with you about him. He was born in the late 1700's in Cornwall, England.

 John Claude Gummoe

I am desperate for information on Gummoe.  All I know is that my father was John Corwin Gummoe, born 1901 in Indianapolis, Indiana USA and that his father, also named John, I am told was born in Cornwall, England.  His mothers' name was supposed to have been Addie.  I suppose my grandfather must have immigrated to America in the late 1800's.  I am at a loss as to where to go from here to find out more about the English Gummoes.

I have most of this information from a John Gummoe in Webster, N.Y. His father is a Neil Gummoe and wife Jane. Neil's father was Friend Gummoe and Crystal Cook. Friends's father was William T. Gummoe and Verna Gager. This line goes back to Samuel Gummoe and Elizabeth Ann Huddy. Samuel and Elizabeth had William T. Gummoe and Thomas who were brothers; Thomas b. 1873 and William b. 1864. Therein lies the connection, and I'm connected but my line went off differently. Both lines go back even further to a Richard Gummoe and Jane/Jenefer Webb. I could explain it all, but the best thing you can do is go to Gencircles.com where you will find all of my GUMMOE data that I have so far. It's a great site......and it's FREE, unlike Ancestry.com that charges for everything. I highly recommend this site.

I am descended from the Pulis (Pullis), Niles, and Nelson families. Conrad Pullis m. Elizabeth Nelson in New York City. Our family history states that she was born in England (perhaps Cornwall) of her mother's second marriage. Elizabeth had two brothers who fought for the Crown during the American Revolutionary War. Conrad was perhaps born in Holland. We are still searching for their European Roots. Their son, Aaron Pulis, m. Ann Olver who was born in Cornwall, daughter of William Olver and Anna Bryant. The family lived in Wayne County Pennsylvania, and can be found on the 1840 Census in Berlin Township, and 1850 in Lebanon Township. By 1860 they had emigrated to Iowa, where they are found on the 1860 and 1870 Census in College Township, Linn County, Iowa. Other family members moved to Iowa (area of Cedar Rapids) also. Among these people were the William Olver family, the Henry Niles family (husband of Catherine Pulis), and later another Cornwall relative, Elizabeth Arthur Churchill (widow of Henry Niles' son) lived there as well. Members of this family were buried at Baker Cemetery in the cornfields just south of Cedar Rapids. Other "Olver" names can be found on markers at Cory Grove Cemetery, Sac City, Iowa where other Niles descendants farmed.

My Olver ancestors originated in Ontario, Canada circa 1830's and before that in Cornwall, England.

Robert Likeman

The one in my pedigree, the Rev H.V. Olver was definitely the one born in Launceston in 1790. In the 1871 census for Bristol, where he later died, he gives his age as 80 and his place of birth as Launceston. I guess he was related to the others somehow. I am afraid I have no clues to the connection with the Vyvyan family. Mary Bone was the daughter of Jacob Bone, and was baptised at St Mary M, Launceston on 6 May 1754, but there is no record of a marriage to a Henry Olver. But an H.V.Olver did marry a Mary Deggery in the same church in 1782, so a second marriage could be the explanation. HV also had two sisters baptised at St Mary M, Mary 1783 and Judith 1788. The only Samuel Olver I can find was married in Maker in 1751.

David Knoll (June 07)

I was told by my cousin, Eleanor Knoll Smith, that our grandmother's sister ("Aunt Netty") married a Tom Olver and settled in Honesdale, Pennsylvania. My grandmother's name was Francis Budd Knoll, so I assume that Netty Budd Olver would have been her sister.  I was stunned (and pleased) to see the name of Francis Budd Knoll on your web site. She is my grandmother on my father's side. I was doing a web search to try to determine her date of birth. I believe the year was 1974, but I don't have the day and month.

Would you perchance have a birth date for Francis Budd Knoll?

Found a scrap of paper while going through an old box. I had found a similar piece of paper earlier which yeilded great results up my PENN/BOWSER line. I think my mom was taking notes from my grandmother over the phone when I was doing mini-research when I was in Elem. School at the time of Roots. The names on here are likely all ancestors of Daniel Olver DAVIS. The areas I know are significant are Allegheney, Westmoreland, Armstrong Counties PA. Also possibly Stark Co, OH; somewhere in Northeast PA. Cardiff Wales referenced on the paper Beech Pond (Place? Name?) John Olver Sarah (or Susan) AUNGER 1793-1880 (or 1886) Tom? Doreen Crouch,

I am currently back to Richard Olver and his wife Mary (from Tavistock in Devon) both born about 1850. They lived in the area of Menheniot and had two sons, Thomas and Richard. Richard married a Laura Champion from Ludgvan in 1906. Any connections prior to 1854 sought.

James Olver

JOHN OLVER , son James Olver was born circa 1820 in Liskeard Cornwall, died 22 March 1893 in Liskeard . See web page.

Joye Cummings

I am interested in finding anyone who has information on William Olver who was born in Liskeard, Cornwall, England about 1752. He was married to Sarah Warne or Warren.

Maureen Hanson

My Gr.Grandmother Mary Olver was reported to have been born in Liskeard c1831. Her father is listed on her death certificate as William Olver and her mother as Mary (either Kelly of Reilly) difficult to read. I have not been able to find any further information on her to this time. Mary married Thomas Snow at Stoke Damerel, Devon on 30 March 1946. Witnesses were William Olver and John Symons. Her fathers occupation is listed as "Gardener". I do not know if the witness was her father or brother. Thomas Snow was the son of Abraham Snow and Catherine Trengove and was baptised in Stithians, and worked in Bodmin, Cormwall. Mary and Thomas arrived in South Australia inlate 1846 or early 1848, ship unknown at this time. They moved to Victoria a couple of years later and had a total of seventeen childred. I would be grateful for any help in theis matter or suggestions as to where I can find a baptism etc. to further my research.

Olvers Floridi Di Prata

I'm Italian and I looking for the source of my name (name not surname): Olvers I born in Italy in Treviso (near Venice) 1964, and I have the same name of my oncle, born 1911 in Treviso too and died 1944 (on war, on Russia) Perhaps you know some Olver was live in Italy on lates years of 1800 - first years 1900 ? Perhaps you know some Olver married with italian people on 1850 - 1900 ? Perhaps you know some Olver married with "Floridi" or with "Di Prata" or with "Grando" ? Thancks for you answers.

Wendy Olver ( Findlay).

My father, Thomas James Olver, b.1895 and his parents, Henry Olver and Elizabeth Jane ( Nott) emigrated to South Africa in December 1901 from St. Austell, Cornwall. Besides my father, my grandparents had 4 other children -Harry, George, William Wallace and Leah.

Fred Myers

There are quite a number of all three surnames on the 1850 census part of my website Spry, Olver, Kinsman.

Ray Elliott.

My wife is a daughter of Vernon Olver.

Vernon was the son of Elijah Wesley Olver from Elimville, Ontario.
He was the son of Elijah Samuel Olver. Who was the son of Thomas Olver from Cornwall.
I can trace the family to the St. Thomas area in 1850. Where Elijah Samuel married Mary-Ann Evans.
I am trying to determine who was in the family and where they came from in England.

Jenny Olver

I am married to Peter Olver (one of three sons of John Olver currently residing in Cheshire, England and direct descendants of the Cornish Olvers). We have yet to visit the ancestral home of the Olver family (called Pen Olver in Cornwall, England) but are reliably informed that this is now nothing more than a windswept headland. For your records, Peter and I met and married in York, England in 2000 surrounded by friends and "Vikings" and both work for the Council for British Archaeology. I was amazed to see your web page as there are very few Olvers in England, as far as I can judge. However, please be assured that those of us who remain are happily eccentric, thumping good drinkers and fond of the quieter and finer things in life. I am not sure if you need any more information, other than the fact that we are alive and procreating like crazy, but will be happy to answer any queries you have to fill in the gaps in the Olver record.

John Berry

I am looking for Blanch Olver (male), (? Chief) Draughtsman for the White Star Line, floruit perhaps 1875-1940. In photos of about 1930 he appears as a rotund moustachioed fellow in his late forties-early fifties. I know nothing about him except that his wife was Fanny Patti(n)son, born in 1875 in Liverpool. Don't even know if they had any children! (I think perhaps they did but that they were all girls - my mother is an only child and had dozens of cousins and second cousins that she kept up with (she is now 90 and lives in Australia), but none to my knowledge were named Olver).

Fanny Pattison (I presume that that is the "correct" spelling) was the youngest (half-)sister of my great grandmother Emma Foden, and could be the key to a huge mystery. My Great-Great-Grandmother Alice (Hind) was married to one Josiah Hinton Foden by whom she had at least two children. After a huge amount of difficulty I found these children and their mother (now listed as Alice Pattison, pensioner) living in 1881 with Alice's brother in law's family in Wallasey, whereas Josiah Foden was living in Liverpool with another wife and four more children whose ages overlapped those of the ones he had with Alice. Thus, somebody had done somebody wrong and there had been, presumably, a divorce and two remarriages and perhaps a widowhood (if Alice was a pensioner because Mr. Pattison had died). Blanch Olver's wife Fanny was the legitimate child of Mr. Pattison, but the 1871 census suggests that the middle sister Elizabeth may have been illegitimate (she was an infant and the parents were already separated). Now, I remember my Great Grandmother (d. 1950), who was quite prominent in Liverpool "women's issues" (suffrage and education) in the late 19th/early 20th centuries. I knew that she had "brought up" her two younger half-sisters (Alice must have died soon after the 1881 census). But NEVER A WORD was said about any monkey business - I don't think my mother even knows. The whole episode must have been a terrible scandal and must have been hushed up completely! The Olvers and any children or documentation I can find are key to the mystery because the other sister, Elizabeth, married one Fred Evans, and it would take for ever to sort out a bunch of Evans's in Liverpool (I already face this problem with the Jones's on the other side of the family).

It is amazing that there is an "Alice Blanch Olver" in the American branch of the family, and even more amazing that your family tree shows no hint of a connection.

So I'd like to ask if you or any of the other Olver researchers with whom you are in contact could suggest where my Blanch Olver fits, and whether he and Fanny had children or have been researched by anyone. I can't believe that the two "Blanch" s are a coincidence, although the "Alice" could well be. The only possibility seems to be that Amos Olver in the snippet above either never went to the USA or came back (he is the only one for whom no placenames for birth, marriage or death are given). Blanch and Alice Blanch would then have been first cousins: but who was the original Blanch after whom they were both named? If there ARE any descendants of Blanch Olver out there, I have a little information on his mother-in-law's family, but nothing on his father-in-law (Mr. Pattinson, deceased by ?1881) at all. Thanks in advance for any insights. John Berry 5000 Beverly Hills Dr., AUSTIN, TX 78731 512-452-8068 jlbassoc@flash.net
