EVERETT FAMILY TREE

Many of the early Everett families lived in East Harling, Norfolk, England. They were landed gentry who lived in Norfolk, England and were mainly Quakers.

The 1839 Directory of Norfolk has the following description of the town:

East Harling or Market Harling is a small market town and parish in the hundred of Guiltcross, 90 miles NE by N from London, 22 SW from Norwich and 9 NE from Thetford. It is a neat little town seated on the banks of a rivulet, which adds its waters to the river Waveney and was once famous for the manufacture and sale of yarn and linen cloth. At present it is destitute of trade, except that derived from the produce of the land, which is fertile.

The church, dedicated to St Peter and St. Paul has a square embattled tower, surmounted by a spire. The parish contained in 1831, 1031 inhabitants.

The 1883 Directory states that the Friends' Meeting House, erected in 1823 has a small burial ground and a vault of the Everetts.

Cissie Harrison, daughter was present at death. 1871 census living at West End of Longrow, Norfolk aged 16 and unmarried. 1881 census living at Goose Green age 26, married and an agricultural labourer. 1891 census living Hardwick Road, Starston, Suffolk & an agr.lab. age 35.

B. Robert EVERETT b. 26-Jan-1779, Market Harling, Norfolk, m. Sarah BOBY . Robert died 26-Nov-1845. Will proved04-Apr-1846. The Boby family lived at Stowupland for some 300 years and were yeoman farmers. Sarah Boby was the daughter of John Boby (1744-1817) and Ann nee Goss.

John died 19-Dec-1888, East Harling, Norfolk. He appointed James John Reeve, then of Park Farm, East Dereham, as one of the executors of his will. John James Reeve was also named as executor of the will by Arthur J Everett. The will was proved in 1911 and J J Reeve is referred to as "retired land agent".

Father Walter died 1905.

20 July 1907 married Gertrude Woodgate of Bungay Suffolk in Ipswich

Q4 1907 son John Royston born, Q1 1908 Walter John died in Ipswich of Brights Disease.

John Royston Everett married and moved to Barking Essex and had one daughter Shirley. He died approx 1965.

Gertrude did not re-marry and died 28th November 1956. Along the way she collected three further children Oswald (parents not known), Winifred (father not known) and Emily Gertrude (her sister's child) Emily Gertrude Everett (born Woodgate).

Died 22-Sep-1944. (My grandmother Kate Maud Barnard was Priscillas younger sister. However, I have family picture postcards;
  one of Priscilla and another postcard of many people fishing by a small
  river, the interesting part is the entry on the back was written by Ruby Everett and indicates she has 'put an X on Dad and the other man with
  the gun is Fred Tillott'. I also have another postcard of The Stores, East Harling, that is signed on the back from Ruby, Claude, Sheila and Roy. If you would be interested I can e-mail copies of these postcards Postcard 1, Postcard2, postcard3 .

D. William EVERETT . b 1788 /Ipswich, Suffolk lived in Botesdale, Suffolk where he was a draper and grocer. He married Maria BOBY on 29-May-1811. Migrated to Port Philip, Victoria, Australia on the Arabian from Liverpool on 21-May-1855 and arrived Australia on 14-Aug-1855 sixtenn years after his son Charles emigrated and one year after his son John emigrated. He died of a stroke in Adelaide.
