My dads uncle William Guy Collicott sent me a postcard in the 60s, of his cousins home which Ihave found of Coldicutt Villas in White Rock, BC Canada.
I searched White Rock for Coldicutt and found a Thomas Davis Coldicutt (1879-1970) who came to Canada from Birmingham. Am trying to link our two lines together.

Info given by Randy Pravitz

Samuel Herbert Coldicutt was born 1887 in Birmingham, England. He said his ancestry includes strains of Welsh and Danish through his mother, and Irish on his father's side.

Thomas Davis Coldicutt was born 1879, also in Birmingham, his middle name reflecting his mothers Welsh origin, and his first name for his father, an artist who died when the boys were very young. Tom, who was only thirteen at the time and attending St. Paul's public school in Wormstone Lane, then began working for a wage. During a recent interview in his Vancouver home he recalled walking three miles each way to and from a Birmingham gun factory and earning three shilling a week.

This information from "Along the Way" by Margaret Lang Hastings. An account of pioneering White Rock and surrounding district in British Columbia.

Trying to establish where William Collicott b. abt 1781, occupation Agricultural labourer, d. 17-Jul-1841, St Wenn, Cornwall. According to the 1841 census for St. Wenn, William was born out of county married Elizabeth TREMBATH 19-Mar-1803 in St Wenn originated from so as to trace ancestors.

Brian Salt (Dec 09)

I am researching for my friend (a Collicott) for information regarding her Grandfather and Great Grandfather and seem to have hit a "wall".  Her Grandad was Albert George COLLICOTT b 1892 in Marylebone, London. We have found him on the 1891 census as George Collicott and he was in a Poor Law school in West London. He married Ellen Annie Beard in 1914 . We have not been able to find him or his Father George Edward COLLICOTT on any other census. Probably the name was spelt wrongly. We have found out that George Edward married Elizabeth Jane STRUGNALL but cannot find the records for this. They just seem to have disappeared off the face of the earth.

Anyone with any info on this family. I would be very grateful  to hear from you.

Tim (May 08)

Wondering if anyone can help confirm my lineage as I have it below. I have pieced this together and I think it to be accurate?

Specifically the relation to William (the Jamestown one) to Thomas Callicot from Isle of Wight....abt 1620.

Is there any documentation of William's Children? I have found a will but no mention of any children.

ANY help is GREATLY appreciated!!!

I am looking for a direct female to female descendant of Mary Callicott/Callicoat (c1790 - 1874), born VA/NC, died Lawrence Co., Ohio, married (1808, Franklin Co., VA) to McCager Dillon (1786-1859), for a DNA test to establish the likelihood of Native American ancestry associated with Mary Callicoat and any of her directly connected female to female descendants.

I would be willing to sponsor this lady descendant for this test through

Family Tree DNA at: http://www.familytreedna.com/.

I believe my great grandmother was Mary Jane Callicott... and she married Andrew Washington Barr in northern Mississippi about 1840... the spelling of her name has been the source of many family discussions... but I stick with the spelling of Callicott... as that is what was written in my grandmothers Bible.... other spellings are Callicutt and Callilcoat.... As to your interest in the Native American ancestry... It is a family story handed down that Mary Jane Callicott was a Native American... I have a photo of her husband and grown children and some of them definitely look Native American... but your Mary is from Va and Ohio.... so must not be the same one..... If you ever happen to find any information on my Mary Jane, I would appreciate if you would forward it to me.....

Joe Merryweather (May 08)

Florence Emma Godson Coldicott (daughter of William Henry Godson Coldicott and Emma Stansbie), was the first wife of my Grandad (Edward Charles Northwood Merryweather). My dad was the son of his second wife however so I don't actually think I'm any relation to you, but just thought you might like to know. If you have any information on my Grandad it would be greatly appreciated. http://www.xtal.info/merryweather/data/mer483.html

Neil Gavin Collocott (Dec 07)

I was born in South Africa in 1952. My father, Kevin John Collocott was also born in South Africa in 1920 as was his father Ernest Walter Collocott in 1884. I have rather vague information that his father was Charles Jnr, born in South Africa in 1852 & dying in 1915. It gets even more vague but his father was Charles Snr born in the UK & apparently came to South Africa with his brothers , Harold & James.( with the 1820 setllers ??)
It would seem that the spelling of our surname was changed around this time as I cannot find any record of COLLOCOTT from the UK?
I am trying to find our original link to the UK & if I could achieve that, I would then look for other contacts but need somewhere to start. See file.

Ray (Dec 07)

According to my sources Emma Stansbie was born c1885 and William Coldicutt in c1888. Their children were:

William c1905, Florence c1907,Florence c1909!!, Margaret Ann 1911, Louvain 1915, Eileen 1917, Arthur 1919, Sarah Joan1929.

Emma Stansbie was the sister of my maternal grandmother Eliza Stansbie.

Also, Smethwick was then part of Staffordshire and it should be Yardley, NOT Yardly, which is part of Birmingham.

Finally, if it's of any use, my mother tells me that Emma used to live in Murdoch Road, Smethwick.

Mary Nivison Burton (Nov 06)

I found my ggg grandfather William Collicott born about 1811 on the 1841 Stoke Climsland, Cornwall, England census. I knew his name was William and his wife's name was Sarah. My gg grandfather, John Collicott born abt 1834, was their eldest son.

They migrated first to Ontario, Canada where they were enumerated in the 1851 census (Houghton Township, Norfolk County, Ontario, Canada).
This census shows 5 children plus William and Sarah.William and Sarah migrated to Michigan where William died in 1859.
Sarah did not remarry. John eventually moved to South Dakota and then to Washington State where he died.

I have dates and sources for the moves, marriages, etc.I was wondering if you have any proof that John and Mary Collicott
who are enumerated on the same page as William and Sarah are William's parents. Also, would you have Sarah's maiden name? Any help
you could give, would be greatly appreciated. Until tonight, I knew that my gg grandfather was born in England, but I had no idea where.

Thank you ever so much

Chris Geeves (Sept 06)

The Australian line of Collicott I am tracing seems to have started with Thomas Collicott b1767. He would be born in Britain somewhere (?) because Australia was not founded as a British Colony untill 1788.
He married Charlotte Midwinter in 1793 (Sydney Town?) and she presented him with three girls and two boys between 1795 and 1801. Charlotte must have died soon after her last child because Thomas wed again in 1809, to a Mary Lickford b1769 who bore a son to Thomas. Thomas died at Castlereagh St Sydney in January 1834.

Carolyn (June 06)

Susan Collicut was born 1811, married Richard Johns, b. Jun3 1813 in Tavistock Devon.

2 children born England before they came to America....Jane b. 23 Feb 1838 and William b. 8 Nov. 1839.

Now whether the children survived and made the trip to N. America I do not know, but the Johns went to Canada first where they adopted an Indian gal who eventually married the man who was one of my gr. gr. grandfathers.

It concerns Richard Collacot (b ca1800) and his family

Richard married Elizabeth ?? and had three daughters:

Charlotte and Phoebe - b 1822, Bristol, twins - christened 26-May-1822, St James, Bristol

and Elizabeth - b 1825 - christened 1-Jan-1826, also at St James

Charlotte married William Butt (not traced in BMD to date) listed as Stonemason in Plymouth, census 1841, and as Builder on his daughter's marriage certificate (Phoebe Charlotte Elizabeth Anne Butt m George Fisk, Clerkenwell 14-Sep-1866). Charlotte had two daughters that I can trace - Phoebe CEA Butt, born 1840 in Bristol, and Elizabeth Collacot Butt, born Plymouth, 1842 - Elizabeth remained unmarried and lived with her sister.

Does anyone have any connection/information on this family? Charlotte is my great-grandmother.

Her sistesr (also of interest) were Keridelia, Charity, Elizabeth, Emma, Louisa, susanna, and Wilmot. I know nothing more and would like as much info as possible. Joanne (Oct 07)

A direct lineage to my father, Ralph Benjamin Collicott, comes from John,(1783-Aug 25, 1857) one of the four Collicott brothers who sailed from Wales in the 1700's and settled in the Canterbury, York Co, New Brunswick,Canada area. Fred Collicott, a cousin, now deceased, had researched the family tree and told me this personally. He gleaned some information from a 1830 land grant. We always thought Collicott was English but for whatever reason, they sailed from Wales. The ships records had been destroyed in 1877 in the great fire that destroyed the entire city centre in St. John, New Brunswick. Fred Collicott said he would have to go to the archives in Wales to find out any more information.
John Collicott married Susannah and their oldest child,William (1815-1898), married Jerusha Estey (1815-1890). One of their children was my grandfather, Benjamin Collicott (22Mar, 1857-Sept,1926). He married Ella MacFarlane(1870-Feb 10,1956).
My father,Ralph,(June 22, 1916-Dec 21, 2002) married Catherine McAndrew,( Apr 1 1920- Nov 1, 1987). Their story which I wrote about mother being an Irish War Bride WWII will be on the Pier 21 website this fall. The piece is entitled,"Kay of Kiltane-Irish war bride." There is some history of the Collicott's in the story.

If it is any help to the researchers in the U.S.A, my grandfather, Benjamin Collicott, had an older brother,Abraham, who went to the Boston area possibly in the 1890's.

This is the only picture I have of my grandfather, Benjamin Collicott Robert Collicott (Bobby) said Pauline, Benny's step-daughter, told him she took the picture in 1925, one year before his death. Benny always had a full beard but a few days before the picture was taken he surprised a skunk in the hen house, He had to shave the beard to get rid of the smell of the skunk spray. He died in 1926 at age 69 of infection caused by a ruptured appendix.
In this picture he has been cutting the hay field behind him. He was a farmer and, on this property in Canterbury, there were two beautiful cherry trees and a great apple orchard that stood for years. The Collicott's were known for their ability to produce great apples. In fact on this property was an apple tree ,called the "Georgie Apple", planted by his brother George Collicott. This was a great tasting apple with a small bump near the stem. Unfortunately the tree had died before my brother, Steven Collicott, had a chance to graft it to another apple tree.

I have only just started looking at this part of the family i.e. grandchildren of my ancestors. Mark Coates Collicott. I have found nothing however, past the 1901 census.
My great Aunt thinks that the family (her aunt Sarah) went to live in Coventry but I can't even find any marriage details.
Perhaps you could help me out?

I married a Collacutt descendent. William J Collacutt was born in 1858 in England, and married Mahala Potter in Ontario Canada in the early 1880s. 3 children Sherwood James, Elsie Mildred and Aldura were born in Darlington Ontario.

Sherwood James married Eliza Catherine Mclennan. They had one son Lloyd Sherwood. Lloyd had only one child, my mother-in-law. The Collacutts are related to the Collacutts who owned mills in Tyrone Ontario. Sherwood started Collacutt Coachlines which existed until the 1950s around Oshawa Ontario, and was purchased by Gray Coach.

I have no info on William's family, and can find no trace of him arriving, nor can I find his marriage records.

Heather Bauerle (Collicott)

I am interested in trying to complete a history of my fathers family. His name is Douglas Lane Collicott, son of Marvin and Ruth Collicott from eastern Washington. My father traced the line back as far as the Mayflower landing and might have a relative that was one of the first 12 of the Mormon church? I know we are originally from England, Wales, Ireland (lots of red hair here). I was just wondering if anyone had any information on Collicotts coming from the east coast in 1600-1700’s then migrating to the west coast. Just starting so don’t have much info besides immediate family. Any info is helpful.

My name is by marriage. My husband is Edward A. Collacott III. His Uncle, Thomas R. Collacott has been doing most of the research, but I'm interested in doing some myself. We live in Prescott, Arizona. The Vanessa that is on your list is probably my husbands cousin.

Trent Collacutt

My interest is in the Collicutt family that originated the Collicutt's on Prince Edward Island, Canada. Census records on PEI merely listed country of birth.

Happened upon your website whilst trying to trace an old schoolpal by the name of Catherine Collicott. I was at Devonport High School for Girls from 1972 to 1977 and Catherine was in my class. She emigrated to New Zealand - I think the year was 1975. Previously to that she resided close to the school. We lost contact. I think she moved to the northern part of New Zealand, possibly Haranga? Would really love to trace her and catch up on gossip. Do you know of the family by any chance? Regards,

I'm researching the Lobb family of Wadebridge and surrounds. My gt-grandfather was Thomas Lobb, b1848 at St.Breock, the son of Jonathon Bewes Lobb and Mary Ann Cavell. Thomas's brother William had a daughter Nellie who married J.Collicott. Their children were Kenneth and Joan Collicott. Have photograph of the Lobb family on a beach in Cornwall c1920? Jim and Nellie are in it.

I am married to Brian John Collecott born in Brisbane on 13/2/1956. His father Stanley Johnstone Collecott was born on 19/01/1909 at Grimsby in England and died 14/11/1976. He had one sister, still living. Edna who is unmarried and in her late 80's in London. Their parents were John Alfred Collecott and Constance Ellen nee Johnstone bothof whom it is beleived died when Stan and Edna were quite young and the children were brought up by 2 maternal aunts. At the time of Stan's birth their address was 55 Durban Road, Grimsby and John's occupation is noted as Paper Merchant. Only info I have is from Stan's birth certificate and we have no idea if John had other family.

I have a photo of a Rev. Collycott, pastor of the Tamarack (Upper Peninsula, MI) Methodist Episcopal Church, 1913-15. ( it may
have been the Osceola Methodist Church (Osceola Township, which is part of Calumet). I found an internet cemetery record for Rev. Wiliam H. Collycott, b. 1870, d. 1957, in Mt. Avon Cemetery, Rochester (Oakland County), MI, and I'm guessing he is one and the same, as this photo would place him in his 40s at that time. Relatives of mine were parishioners in his church. If anyone is related or interested, I'd be happy to send you a scan.
