He was born 30 May 1753 in CARDINHAM, and died 11 April 1838 in YEOVIL. Richard ws an excise officer in Bideford 1786 Lived in Dorchester 1801, Crewkerne in 1820 & Yeovil in 1828. His wife was in poor health and ws almost totally deaf by 1830

He was at sea in 1834 In a letter from his father Richard to Francis john itstates that Thoamas had written a letter dated, 24 MAY 1820? Hhe was at Poplar, London and is going to the Cape of Good Hope and from there to the Brazills

4. Richard BUNT, b. 25 January 1792, BRIDPORT; d. 1871, WOLVERHAMPTON; m. Anne (TAMBLINGS) , 1820; b. Abt. 1800. He enlisted in the Buffs for 7 years 1814 to 1821, stationed Newry Ireland. Obtained his discharge & by 1828 was living in Shrewsbury with 4 children. By 1832 he had moved to Wolverhampton and had 6 children. Was working for a tailor for 2 years at a guinea a week. By 1834 he had joined the Methodists.

Petherick lived at Yeovil, Somerset, England, In 1831 he married Elizabeth Lewis. One son was born Thomas in 1832. Elizabeth died in 1834 at the age of 25. Petherick remarried in 1837. This time to Susan Curtice 1817-1894. On the death of his father Richard 11/4/1839, Petherick & Susan with their son Samuel, left England and settled in Vaughan township York county, near Wood bridge, Ontario. Where they lived for about 10 years. In 1848 on learning that a section of crown land was being made available for settlement further west, Petherick with his young family of 2 sons & 3 daughters, moved to Peel township, Wellington County. Alma. Ontario.

Emigrated to Australia after birth of 3 sons. Elijah returned to England in early 1900s & lived at 2 Windsor Terrace, after Amanda's (wife) death in Australia aged 48 with daughter Amanda and became a manager for the church school. Funeral of Mrs Bunt of Brunswick Villas, St Dennis 30 Jan 1914. Both buried together in St Dennis churchyard.

• (a) 1 Edward (Edwy) James BUNT b 1873 St. Dennis, Cornwall, d 1951 in Sydney, Australia, m 1900 Annie Mary RILEY b 1878 d 1957. Emigrated with his father Elijah and mother Amanda Truscott on the vessel St Lawrence from Plymouth arriving 3 months later on 08-Jun-1877 . At the age of 4 there were reports that he was nearly washed overboard and was managed to be saved.Later in life he was a talented pianist & travelled to England on more than one occasion playing for the passengers. He was the conductor of the N.S.W. railway choir and orchestra. Annie his wife was a soprano.

The depression was disasterous to the clothing industry. He became a greengrocer going from house to house- eventually he was a shopkeeper and at one time employed a number of persons selling ice-cream in the street.

      • John Bunt was born in Cornwall the son od Nicholas and Mary (Kay) Bunt, both of whom died in England where John grew to manhood. In 1848 he married Elizabeth Sowden a native of Cornwall also, born June 24, 1826 daughter of William and Elizabeth Sowden bot h whom lived our their lives in their native country. not long after the marriage Mr. and Mrs Bunt went to America and settled in the Locality where they continued to make their home. Attracted to California by tale s of riches of that country Mr.Bunt went there in 1852 and remained until 1854 when he returned and bought a farm which he afterwards converted into one of the finest in the country. many of those who came to Wisconsin had been miners in England, but Mr. Bunt had been a farmer and thoroughly understood the business in a scientific way which was soon evidenced in improvements which took place on the land he owned and operated these methods of farming have since been adopted by many others in the locality r es ulting in a state of perfection in agricultural activities which may well call forth words of admiration. This is conceded to be one of the richest agriculture districts in the whole state and the farmers lived as do the land gentry of other countries with their blooded cttle and stock, their handsome modern residences and all the culture and refinements of life. Children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Bunt as follows Mary J Bunt born in Elk Grove Lafayette County, Wis. married John Reed, farmer near Galena, Illinois and has two children - Charles W and Myrtle Reed. Anna E Bunt married James Nicholas who reside at Cuba City and has one son John E Nicholas. William S Bunt married a MRS Slater of Pennsylvania and resides on his farm in Ipswich Wis. John H Bunt ma rried Dorothy Clayton of Elk Grove and they reside on the old farmstead at Elk Grove with one of their sons John C Bunt. Delia a cultured educated lade has devoted her life to the care of her aged mother. Lawrence M Bunt married Mary McNett and they resid e on a part of the old farmstead, it being divided into two farms. They had three daughters Hazel, Edna, Louise Unt. Amy L married Lewis Mcnett who resides on a farm near Elmo and they have two children Ethel and Velma Bunt. Richard after finishing district school education graduated at the Platterville Business College and enter the North Western University at Evanston Illinois but on account of ill health gave this up and with his brother Charles located for a time on a ranch in Iowa. Charles eho was educated in the state normal school conducts the Iowa Farm. The death of Mr.John Bunt took place on June 8th 1888. He left his family two large farms at Elk Grove comprising several hundred acres of land under a high state of cultivation. As a stock raiser, he had been very successful. His products in this line be ing always the best in the market. The home of Mr. Bunt had been made by him one of the most attractive in this part of the state, a beautiful lawn surroundeed the elegant brick mansion giving it an air of seclusion amd refiinement selem observed in the ordinary county home. For some time previous to his death mr. Bunt had been troubled by a serious affection of the kidneys but a naturally robust constitution prolonged his life. When the time of his releae came he was sincerly mourne by the whole community as he was universall y respected and esteemed. Many in his victinity had reson to beknown of his generousity and liberality and alyhough he was never formally connected with any religous denominations h e was a liberal supporter of the M.E. Church and his influence was always in the direction of morality. In 1897 Mrs. Bunt and her daughter Delia moved to Plattervillw where they rented a beautiful home and they are among the most highly esteemed residents of that city.

For the next 3 years he was stationed at Bideford in North Devon, and there in April 1788 Ann was born. Richard was a devout Methodist ,and a personal friend of John Wesley, who wrote a letter to Richard Bunt. I have a photo copy of the original from the Wesley Archives in Manchester. We may assume that he stayed with the Bunts at Bideford on more than one occasion. Richard retired to Yeovil, where he died on the 11th April 1838.
