Kevin Bunt

Do you have families in Australia? Would you like to find your ancestors?

Started in 1998 with the help of Jean and Graham in the U.K. and I have now branched out and believe I now have on record more Bunts' than anyone else
here in Australia.

My Records:

I have traced my family from Cornwall to Lithgow New South Wales arriving in 1877 and I have produced a CD with these records known as "Our Bunt Family
From Cornwall to New South Wales". I have also completed a spin off "James brother to Elijah" which traces the descendants of James Bunt brother to
Elijah my grandfather. Lots of old photos.

I have just completed another CD " The Descendants of John Bunt the Convict No. 34-1529". John Bunt 1809-1866. This is a huge side of the family and I
have people contacting me with more information which is updated constantly.

This family originated from Sutton Forest in New South Wales. This family has now spread throughout Queensland and Victoria. I have his ancestors as
well. His wife Ann Fairall 1822-1905 I have her ancestors.

Bunt families also settled in Newcastle New South Wales. Edward Bunt 1805-1877 came out to Australia in 1844 from St Teath. Cornwall.. They moved

into the Taree area of New South Wales. I have his descendants and ancestors

A Richard Barlett Bunt jumped ship from the HMAS "Virago" in Sydney April 4, 1870 and settled in Newcastle. His brother Thomas came to Sydney from
Troy Polperro. Lansallos Cornwall.and then went to Lithgow for a time and then settled in Newcastle. I have his descendants and ancestors

A John Bunt and his wife Mary Rich with 3 surving children arrived in Australia on the "General Hewitt" on 13 November 1848 from Warleggon.
Cornwall.. Settled in the Newcastle area. I have his descendants and ancestors.

In the future I am planning to put these stories from Newcastle in a CD form as well.

So those people who are interested in this side of the families and are willing to help with their records then I am happy to share my information.
I have many old photos as well as certificates which helps to make the stories. I would like to have copies others to build the library so that
others may share in the future. I would like to thank all those people who have helped with the tree so far. There is no fees as it is just a hobby.

Finally I have records of the Bunt families settling in New Zealand.

Joseph Hawkey Bunt 1868-1943 Bodmin, Cornwall . Joseph with his mother and step father and sister Elizabeth and step brother Charles in 1880 traveled
to Port Chalmers, Otago, New Zealand. Descendants and ancestors on record

James Arthur Bunt. 1849-1934 From St Pinnock. Cornwall. sailed to New Zealand on the "Waitang" to Christchurch leaving 7 September and arriving on the 7 December 1875. He came as an assisted passage. Again descendants and
Ancestors.

For those who are interested in these families please contact Kevin Bunt at janita.bunt@bigpond.com  for further information.

Alan Day (Aug10)

My aunt, Joyce Clare Hope Salter, was born on the 20/1/1912. Clare Helen Hope Bunt was her mothers maiden name. I recall seeing some papers, probably during the mid 1970’s, from her distant relation, who was the boatswain of HMS Mars during the battle of Trafalgar. The papers consisted of the victualling list for HMS Mars as well a personal letter sent home to his mother. The letter was memorable as it was copper plate and written left to right, rotated and written through the word gaps. These papers were subsequently sent to one of Joyce’s relations, unfortunately I do not know the recipient. I would love to know where these ended up and if they were eventually lodged with the Greenwich Naval museum or UK National archives, so that I can view them again or obtain facsimiles.  A search of the Trafalgar roll call on the national archives web site confirms  John Bunt as Boatswain on HMS Mars. I plan to visit the archives to persue this further. I believe this could be the same John Bunt who married Eliza. Apparently John died in 1818 in Trincomalee and Eliza’s diary, based on her travels back to the uk on board HMS Trincomalee has now been published, available from Amazon or the Trincomalee trust. The author, a distant relation, Mary Hope Monnery, has the Hope middle name so it is quite possible that Joyce and Mary are related. I know that there was a Mr Eric Bunt alive in the early 1990’s who was beneficiary in Joyce’s will so he may have inherited them.

I also inherited birth certificates for: Winifred Christina Jane Bunt:  b. 10/11/1887, registered in W.Battersea, London.   Cyril George Edward Bunt: b. 5/3/1882. Registered in Landport, near Portsmouth.   Christina Sarah Gertrude Bunt:b.16/4/1889. againregistered inW Battersea, London.  I believe these all from the John Bunt line but not sure of the relationships.

Nancy Wilkes-Trujillo (Aug 10)

I am looking for my two first cousins named David & Linda Wilkes (born around 1955 in the USA).   Their mother is Betty Joan Bunt (born around 1927 in Perth, Australia).   Their father was James Wilkes (born in 1925 in Louisville Kentucky, USA)   James and my father, Perry R. Wilkes Jr (born 7/7/1921 in Louisville, Kentucky, USA) were brothers.     Both James and Perry have passed away.
Around 1945, my uncle James Wilkes was in the US Navy stationed in Perth, Australia were he met and married Betty Bunt.   They came to the US in 1947 and had two children, David and Linda.   When David and Linda were young, Betty took them back to Australia and divorced James.    James was a chemist.
My mother, Alice, (now 85) occasionally speaks about Betty Bunt and wonders how Betty, David and Linda are doing.   My mother really liked Betty and understood when she left James.   Both James and my father, Perry were difficult to live with.   My mother divorced my father in 1970.
I would appreciate any help in locating David and Linda.   They may have a last name other than Wilkes, as Betty may have remarried.   Thank you for your help, Nancy Wilkes-Trujillo in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA

Pam (Bunt) Remick (Feb 08)

I am the granddaughter of Harry Bunt, whose mother was Grace Odger Bunt --- they were in Cornwall, but I am not sure what town, other than hearing talk about Penzance, Liskeard. There was a cousin, Frank Bunt, who came to live with Harry and my grandmother, Edna, in NY, after World War I, suffering from shell shock. Harry had come to America to apprentice with a cousin in NY who had started a building business, Harry being a bricklayer, who went on to start his own construction business, until the Depression. I do know that my grandfather also had a sister, named Lily, or Lillian, who died during or around World War II.

Limited info, I know, but perhaps it can be a start! I have tons of photos taken in England, but no names or places marked on them, too bad! My father, Donald Henry Bunt, was born in 1918, and spent some time with his grandparents and family as a young person (7 and 8 years of age) over there, but never went back as an adult, so any ties were by Christmas cards. I do know there was a cousin, Betty Bunt, who either owned or had a family member who owned a small hotel in , I think, East Looe --- or West Looe, even.

Would appreciate any help…….thank you --- Pam (Bunt) Remick, Lancaster, NH, USA. (26 Winter St., Lancaster, NH 03584)

My relative is KATE ELLIOTT the wife of W R P BUNT. The Elliott's are my father's ancestry. The Elliott's came from the Ermington/Cornwood area near Plymouthand lived in Lanlivery near Lostwithiel in 1871 where some of the Elliott children were born. William John Elliott, the father of Kate Elliott, was born in Cardiff. The family were on the move a lot and in 1881 were living in St Andrews in Plymouth.

I am a Bunt, descended from Cornwall, now living in Dorset. I have long been interested in our Geneology and have been a member of the 'Bunt Net' website for a while.

Alyson Mead.

I've just started digging around in my family tree. My grandad Fred Vosper was the brother of Ivy Vosper who married Bert Bunt - I'm guessing that would make me a second cousin of their children Reginald, John, Pamela and Richard.

I am the Great Great Grandson of Matthew Cawrse & Mary Bunt & Great Grandson of Matthew Cawrse & Laura Coppin. Hopefully you will find these people in your tree. I have recently returned from a very successful trip of the church yards of this area, including St Neot, Cardinham, St Breward, Blisland and Warleggan. There are so many people in these places of interest to me for my own research that I spent a whole week walking around taking inscriptions and photo's of the tomb stones.

There are a lot of Bunt's in this area, but in view of the heavy rain and time I had to concentrate on specific individuals (connected with the Cawrse family), but I do have a few Inscriptions and Gravestone Photo's for anyone who might be interested.

John Henwood

It appears we are descended from Daniel Henwood and Ann Bunt through a son called William (baptised 1767) who married an Elizabeth Blackmore at Roche in 1788 and so on. I have yet to confirm the Daniel connection by checking the LDS microfilm for Cardinham.

Alan Shaw

My grandfather was Charles DYER, I believe (90%) that his grandfather was Charles Bunt DYER, as I was dragged around AMLWCH, Wales as a child looking at graves. I was also told that the Dyer's came from Cornwall and were tin miners.

I am interested in the Bunt family from Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, England. My Grandmother was Emma Matilda Bunt b. 1885 in Wolverhampton. Her father was a Willis Bunt b. 1860 (according to the 1881 C England) he was also born in Wolverhampton. I have had no success in tracing his Mother and Father, perhaps someone will know.

William Bunce

. In the 1800 & 1810 census my 3rd great grandfather was listed in Kent, Co. Maryland as Jacob Bunts. In later census' his son, also Jacob Bunce, was listed as Bunts, Buntz, and finally Bunce. He also reported that his father was born in Pennsylvania. I am at a brick wall in my reseach and was wondering if you might be able to help me. I came across you web site several times and I have fumbled through it enough to find that you know what your doing and that I dont. I can send you all the information I have if you are willing to help.

I tried to email Paul Bunt since he is listed as focusing on Canada. Francis Bunt was married twice and I come to the Bunts from the second wife Margaret McQuarrie. They had two children. Who would I contact to see if they are interested in this line or if more is known about them.

I was so interested to hear that your father and Graham's father are related as my ggf John Bunt bpt 1837 and Graham's gggf James Bunt bpt 1828 were brothers, so I think we are on the same tree. I have been given so much by both Graham and John Bunt of Truro but do not have it in front of me. Which of the brothers do you descend from? Cornwall is at its best at present with this beautiful summer weather and I wish it would continue. We were very impressed with all you have put on to the web site and I hope to learn more about computers now that I am on a beginners' course at Truro College.

I live in Lithgow, NSW, Australia, and the name 'Bunt' rang a bell. I have a snippet of information for you that will probably either mean nothing to you, or else just complicate matters. Here it is anyway: On a farm near here (at a location that could variously be described as Kanimbla, Ganbenang, Lowther, Marsden's Swamp or Hartley) is a 1938 BSA Silver Star motorcycle with the name 'E D Bunt' engraved on the oil filler cap. Some time ago I asked an older motorcycling acquaintance about this person and he remembered him as 'Eddie Bunt'. Perhaps the name Eddie came from the name Edward, or perhaps it just came from the initials E.D., in which case Eric Douglas Bunt may be a candidate (about the right age, and his wife's family name, Dykes, is common around here). What a lot of work you must have put into your family history research.

Elizabeth Hunter

Capt James Bunt who married Grace Grigg. His side of the family go down through Elijah Bunt and mine through James Bunt. It is interesting that three brother Elijah, James and Charles? Married three Truscott sisters.( From James And Eliza Truscott- Cronwell) My grandmother, Ilma Grace Bunt was raised by another Truscott sister who married a Quine.

I am absolutely sure that my gggrandfather Henry CHENOWETH is the brother of Jane CHENOWETH (wife of Thomas BUNT). I have a 1955 privately-taken "census" of the descendants of Henry CHENOWETH. It includes names of relatives of the family of which Henry CHENOWETH was a member--that's where the BUNT family comes in. Steve Curley 2425 Ursuline Galveston, TX 77550
