Joseph died Cornwall. 1841 lived in Ladock with 4 children and a farmer. Times were desperate & many family members & relatives were migrating especially to America, also New Zealand & Australia. April 1847 son Samuel & Mary's brother John Hicks Varcoe sailed to America. Joseph & Mary might have had another son who died. 1848 Joseph aged 58 found work at Newlyn as a skilled farm worker who lived on the job Mon am - Sat pm. Witness at wedding W Edward Blake. Mary: Sad times when children left Cornwall. Letter written 1847 states Mary & Joseph were having thoughts of going to America, Mary coaxing her sister Selina to give serious consideration of accompanying them there, Selina was unmarried & seems to have had trouble with her eyes. They never got to America both died in Cornwall.

Prominent citizen of Manchester township. On home farm reared to habits of industry & thrift & gained good education in local public schools,supplemented later by reading & study. " years after marriage lived in Bethany, Wayne Co. then operated a farm there. 1880 went to Caddo, Blue Country, Choctaw Nation, Ind. ter. where spent 1 year then went to Texas where contracted malaria didn't stay long. Spent 1 season in Peabody, Marion Co. Kansas then returned to Manchester farm of 100 acres. A Republican & Episcopal methodist.

Emmigrated to USA about 1847. Emmigrated to Australia 1855. Mary, in Cornwall, earned her living from sewing. Took responsibility for sister Charlotte on their mother's death. Married in 1855 , still looking after sister Charlotte aged 6. George: Lived with or near Mary's brother John for 3 years then decided to migrate to Sydney, Australia in 1855 with young son & Charlotte. Left New York 16/3/1855 aboard sailing ship "Georges" arriving Sydney 5/7/1855. Name spelt Anwin.

D. Frances Varcoe BLAKE b. 10-Sep-1835, Laddock, Cornwall, d. abt 1842. Died young.
E. Charlotte Varcoe BLAKE b. 14-Apr-1846, Laddock, Cornwall. Emmigrated to USA about 1847. May have then gone to Australia 1855. Married George Black in London. Back to USA 1870.
