THE TRUSCOTT FAMILY TREES

The Truscott line near St. Neot, Cornwall (thanks to Mary for the updated info)

1. Charles TRUSCOTT was born 1782. He married Grace HAMBLEY 1807.

Thanks to Mary who found there could be confusion as there were two Charles and Fanny Truscotts. Children even had similar names. However.. one Charles was born St. Austell, was a China Clay Merchant and his "Fanny" was born in Monmonthsire. That Charles lived to a ripe old age.

The other Charles Truscott was born in St. Pinnock and did die young. You have his correct parents.. he was living with his widowed mother, Hannah in 1861 in St. Pinnock. Charles was age 22 and listed as "Powder Mill Laborer".(This is the above line)

My mother's father was named "Gus" (Augustus?) Truscott who married Eva Steinle (sic?). They were both dead before I was born or shortly afterward (1950s). My mother, Laura Edna Truscott also had a brother James. Laura was born in 1916 and I believe her brother was older (half-brother?), but died before I was born as well.

The family supposedly lived in Dover, NJ on a farm during mother's early years, but I can't seem to locate any census info on them. There is
also supposedly some Native American connection, but since I can't locate the census information, I can't get that either.

Bill Bilkey

Copy to some people on message board so I don't have to retype... sorry. Hopefully, this information helps someone.

Bilkey/Poad/Warrick/Reynolds/Truscott would be my Father's side. Off the top of my head, I recall seeing a Fred Truscott living with a John Bilkey and Mary Ann in the 1881 Census (St. Dennis or St Austell) and listed as a Grandson at the age of 3... which puzzled me. I'm not sure if that John Bilkey is a relative of mine. I am in touch with James Best (you mentioned Millicent Rose Best). I've also got a Mary Ann Truscott (born 1803 in Coombe per marriage license) that married John Poad (1793 - 1878) in 1837 in St Stephen... marriage license shows her Father as George Truscott - a Miner. Both were Widowed at time of marriage and I believe Marianne Truscott's first husband was Thomas Roberts. But I'm having trouble finding anything on George Truscott to confirm which one is her Father as well as Mother's name. Sometimes we just need to make a little connection to break through to get several other decendents.

My Grandfather is John Bilkey (1899 St. Mewan Cornwall - 1971 Los Angeles, CA) lived much of his life in Detroit, MI as a Plant Manager for Ford Motor Co. He married my Grandmother Winnifred Warrick (1904 - 1995) in 1931 in Ontario, Canada (across the boarder from Detroit, MI) although both were born in Cornwall, England they met (maybe again) in the US. Winnifred was the daughter of William Thomas Warrick and Emily Poad (daughter of John Poad and Mary Ann Trucsott). From the birth or death certificate we know John Bilkey's father was John Bilkey from St. Ewe, Cornwall and I found one born there in 1858... don't know wife's name or his Father's name. So as you can see I have multiple Truscott connections.

I found this... could it have been William George Truscott???? Or could George have been her Brother signing in as Father due to Father's death?

43. William TRUSCOTT was baptised on 1 Jan 1773 in St Stephen in Brannel. He died on 16 Apr 1837 in Trewithan, St Stephen. He was buried on 18 Apr 1837 in St Stephen in Brannel. William died aged 65 at Trewithan. His Will made on 15-Aug-1835, was witnessed by John ELLIS and Charles CROWLE. It was proven on 13-Jun-1837. The Will describes him as a Yeoman. Will: ‘First I give to my daughter Mary JENKIN 1/- also my daughter Joanna TRUSCOTT 1/- also my daughter Ann YELLAND 1/-. All the remainder of my goods Chattels Effects Moveable and immoveable of what nature I may die in possession of. Thereby I give and Bequeath unto my son James TRUSCOTT and my daughters Catherine and Betty TRUSCOTT (whom I make and ordain to be my whole and sole Executors, and they are to share and share alike of this my last Will and Testament…’ Effects were under £450.

He was married to Joanna BILKEY on 17 Jan 1801 in St Stephen in Brannel Cornwall. The Witnesses at their marriage were Alexander senior and Alexander junior who were William's father and brother. Joanna BILKEY was born about 1776. She was buried on 18 May 1817 in the St Stephen Cemetery. She died at Coombe aged 41 years. William TRUSCOTT and Joanna BILKEY had the following children:

99. Mary Ann TRUSCOTT was baptised on 19 Apr 1802 in St Stephen in Brannel Cornwall. Mentioned in father's Will as JENKIN. Mary Ann was mentioned in Elizabeth HICKS’ Will as being the wife of Edward JENKIN of St Stephen in Brannel, yeoman. She inherits £19 from Elizabeth, to be paid in instalments. She is also inherits one shilling from her father William TRUSCOTT.

Mary Ann TRUSCOTT and Edward JENKIN were married before 1837. Their marriage has not been found.

From Family Search.org

Death:

Mary Ann Truscotts Brother?

George Truscott
Christening: 17 MAY 1806
Saint Stephen In Brannel, Cornwall, England
Marriage:

Death:

1.) George Truscott born about 1788 and married Phillippa Tretheway born about 1788 both from St Stephen. 1861 Census there is a Mary Tretheway born 1794 living with Emma Truscott Tretheway. (Found this as John Poad's first wife was Mary Tretheway and second wife was Mary Ann Truscott)... Mary Anne/Marianne/Mariane Truscott gave birth the Alexander Poad. If it's this George then his Father was William Truscott born about 1748 and Mother was Margery or Margaret Truscott born about 1752... married 1771 in St Stephen. This George would have been 15 when Mary Anne was born.

2.) George Truscott about 1773 married Phillis Clemo about 1776 in St Stephen married in St Stephen Dec 1799. I've seen a Clemo living with a Poad as a Mother In-Law. This George would have been 30 when Mary Ann was born. If it's this George Truscott then his Father was George Truscott born about 1744 and Mother was Dorcas Yelland. I've seen the Yelland name often. In 1861 a George Truscott born in 1801 lived next to the Yellands in St Stephen.

3.) George Truscott born about 1767 and married Mary Varco born 1769 and married in 1791. Least likely, but possible. They were from St Dennis.

I also found this information...

Same Truscott line or different... if same might be of interest? http://www.rickandhelena.com/fam/fam00866.htm and http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~boneplace/misc/poor.html George Truscott and the Tretheway name are mentioned here. John Poad's first wife was Mary Tretheway and second was Mary Ann Truscott born around 1803 in Coombe (formerly Roberts who's sir name is also on this link) who's Father was George Truscott. Looks like I will need to figure out how to buy birth certificates and if that is possible with a estimated date of birth. I noticed George Pinch and Yelland in the second link.
