Thomas Davis Coldicut

Samuel Herbert Coldicutt was born 1887 in Birmingham, England. He said his ancestry includes strains of Welsh and Danish through his mother, and Irish on his father's side.

Thomas Davis Coldicutt was born 1879, also in Birmingham, his middle name reflecting his mothers Welsh origin, and his first name for his father, an artist who died when the boys were very young. Tom, who was only thirteen at the time and attending St. Paul's public school in Wormstone Lane, then began working for a wage. During a recent interview in his Vancouver home he recalled walking three miles each way to and from a Birmingham gun factory and earning three shilling a week.

This information from "Along the Way" by Margaret Lang Hastings. An account of pioneering White Rock and surrounding district in British Columbia.

Jean, hope this was of some interest. The article on the brothers is about 4 pages and gives quite an account of their careers in British Columbia. Would gladly send you copies if you wish.

Best wishes, Randy Pravitz

Obviously Mary remarried (Edward Porter) sometime around 1893 and had 3 children with him.

Thomas Davis did NOT go to Canada until 1901 at the earliest. His brothers Charles James and Samuel Herbert went with him. Thomas Davis Coldicutt married Margaret Styler in 1902 in Victoria, BC. Charles James Coldicutt married Mary Elizabeth Connolly in 1919 in BC. Thomas Davis died in 1970 in Vancouver. Charles James died in New Westminster in 1940 at age 59, and Samuel Herbert died in White Rock in 1969 at age 81. Their father, Thomas, was 24 in 1881, so born about 1856 in Birmingham and he died before 1891, presumably in Northfield, Worcester. The name varied with each census - sometimes Caldicott, Caldicutt, Coldicott, etc. I would think that you could probably get a death certificate stating the names of Thomas' parents from Worcester.
