England ; registered by John Barber on 12 Mar 1812 at the Wesley Chapel, City Road, London, England ; married at West Hackney, London, England ; she emigrated with her husband to Australia in 1839 ; in 1859 she wrote the words to "The Song of Australia" for a competition organised by The Lions Club, Edwardstown ; died aged 54 (?) at South Terrace, Wallaroo, South Australia ; buried at Wallaroo Cemetery 12 Jul 1874 (grave 845) . In November 1923 a red granite obelisk was erected "In memory of Mrs Caroline Carleton, the authoress of 'The Song of Australia'".In 1959 the obelisk was moved to Centenary Square, opposite the Wallaroo Post Office.
