Here you will find all the weddings listed in the Index of the Registrar General for ENGLAND and WALES for the years 1837-1962 and some which are not. That is the index available for public inspection at the Family Record Centre in London. They are listed in order of Quarter Year and then alphabetically by first name. The following is a brief introduction to the listings.
I have not included the FRC references to save space. These can be obtained from The FreeBMD Website . Ancestry has recently added scans of the Indexes (1837 to 1983) to their website.

NameBthyrWedyrDthyrRegistration DistrictNotesHusband / WifeQtryr
Mary Jane 1837----DoverIGI= James Philpott1837/3
Mary Jane is a woman marrying out of the BAYNES surname, She is indexed but her husband is not. The IGI in the Notes column shows that the source of the partners name is the IGI. The dashes in the Dthyr column only give an indication that she will not be included in the FRC index for Deaths under BAYNES. The year of death is given where known. The marriage is indexed in the third quarter of 1837. This may not be the same quarter year in which the marriage took place for various reasons.

Jane (Williams)----1837 WiganIGIJeffery & Jane Williams1837/4
Jeffery 1837 WiganIGIJeffery & Jane Williams1837/4
Jeffery is a man who is a BAYNES before and after marriage. His bride was Jane ne Williams. She is indexed in this list but is not listed under BAYNES in the FRC index. The dashes in the Bthyr column show she will not be listed in the FRC index for Births under BAYNES. The year of birth will be given where known. The entries for bride and groom will not necessarily be next to each other in this list as they are listed alphabetically by first name within each quarter year.

Sarah (Barker)----1891----Warevitals= George Webb1891/4
Sarah nee Barker is a widow marrying for the second or third time. Neither her birth nor her death will be listed under BAYNES in the FRC indexes. The Notes column shows the source of the bride and groom is the British Isles Vital Records Index 2nd Edition available on CDROM. The list of other sources is given here;

REPEAT

A record with REPEAT in the Notes column is suspected, by me, of being a second indexing of one marriage. The national index does have two when the indexer was unsure of the spelling of the first names or the surname.

SECOND

A record with SECOND in the Notes column is suspected, by me, of being an indexing of a second marriage involving the same bride and groom. I suspect that this happened when a ceremony was carried out once in the bride parish and once in the groom parish. The rules say this is allowed but that only the first should be registered. Mistakes are made.

Now you are ready for the Listings. They are in two parts 1837-1899 and 1900-1962. They are big pages and will take a while to load. Please be patient. They are far from complete but with your help I hope to fill the empty gaps.

Do you have information which this listing lacks ? If so, then do please take the time to email me with that information. Take care to ensure that I am able to identify which wedding is being referred to. (It should be possible to copy and paste the relevant record from the webpage to your email.) And most important of all, If I have got something wrong then do please tell me, otherwise I will never know.
